Her Story
About Sri
Sri Borra serves as an Infrastructure Security Engineer for Blue Cross Blue Shield Association in a contract role she has held for nearly two years. With close to five years of experience in the cybersecurity field, she specializes in managing P1 incidents, leading cross-functional response efforts, and leveraging AI-native tools such as the Zero Incidence Framework to automate alerts and remediation. Sri earned her bachelor's degree in computer science in India in 2020 and her master's degree in computer science from the University of Florida in 2023. She holds GCIH, GFACT, and GSEC certifications from SANS, obtained with the support of a SANS Institute scholarship facilitated through her membership in Women in Cybersecurity. Sri volunteers with the Humane Society and has mentored women pursuing CompTIA Security+ certification through a New Jersey unemployment program. She attributes her success to her passion and curiosity for security, the dynamic nature of the work, and her willingness to network and seek guidance without hesitation.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My passion and curiosity about security, meeting amazing people, the non-monotonous nature with constant new challenges to learn from, and pushing past shyness to network and ask questions without fear.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Always go for it without hesitation, give things a try, network because your network is your net worth, and apply for jobs even if you don't have every qualification - companies may value passion and willingness to learn.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Talk to someone and find a mentor, use free internet resources and courses instead of expensive overhyped ones, figure out what you're passionate about and follow it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The urgency of incidents requiring constant top performance, new daily challenges in security, communicating with other teams about added security steps, explaining business impact to stakeholders in layman's terms, and working 24/7 with no rest.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Empathy as a big advocate, clear communication even during disagreements to avoid conflict, and always being open to helping others make their path easier based on my own difficult journey into security.
