Her Story

About Sri Gowri

Sri Pasumarti currently works as a User Experience Designer. In this role, she designs websites and mobile applications using tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch. Her responsibilities include conducting product research and user research, participating in client meetings, and collaborating with product teams to understand project needs. Pasumarti brings two years of professional experience to her work, along with six years in the field when including her educational background. She has completed internships at multiple organizations including Google, United Way, the Asian Institute of Technology, SolarSpell, and Axis Trucks. Pasumarti has also volunteered with SolarSpell and United Way. She is pursuing her Master's degree, which she considers one of her proudest accomplishments. In her view, research constitutes about 80 percent of the work in user experience design and should precede any design or sketching activities. Pasumarti notes that experience requirements of 10 to 12 years pose a significant challenge in the field, which has only existed for roughly seven to eight years.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sri Gowri

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Most people think this field is just designing in software, but it's really the research behind it with users, product, and clients. Research is 80% and very important even before designing and sketching.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Experience requirements are the biggest challenge because many roles ask for 10 to 12 years, but the field only started 7 to 8 years ago, making it impossible for anyone to have that much experience.
