Her Story

About Stacey

Stacey Langal serves in philanthropy at a family office in Cleveland, Ohio, where she joined in January 2018 to build the philanthropic structure, branding, processes, and community relationships in Northeast Ohio. She stepped into this role after more than fifteen years on the nonprofit side of the philanthropic space, beginning in March 2003 at a national healthcare nonprofit organization, where she raised the most money in her chapter office while working part-time and raising her children. Earlier in her career, after graduating college in the 1990s as a poli-sci major with interests in events and journalism, she completed an internship at a local news radio station that led to public relations and event management roles, including at Borders and Walden Books. Langal has volunteered in various capacities throughout the years and draws on her experiences to structure effective philanthropic partnerships. She credits positive, encouraging managers who rewarded hard work and problem-solving, as well as advice from a female leader that it is acceptable to excel at one role at a time rather than striving to be the best employee, mom, wife, and daughter simultaneously. Langal advises young women entering the field that attitude, positivity, and problem-solving resonate more than a degree or GPA.

Ten minutes with Stacey

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice came from two positive, encouraging managers who rewarded hard work and problem-solving, and from a female leader who advised that you do not need to be the best employee, mom, wife, and daughter all at once - it is okay to excel at one thing at a time without being perfect in everything simultaneously.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Hard work, being positive, and being a problem solver matter more than a degree or GPA. Attitude resonates and matters most.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

On the nonprofit fundraising side there is always demand for good fundraisers who can build relationships and make asks, but it can be intimidating. On the philanthropy giving side it is a niche competitive space with varying structures across family offices and corporations.
