Her Story

About Stacey

Stacey Sottile is an author and podcast host and producer with over two decades of experience in health advocacy, journalism, and related fields. She earned her bachelor's degree in creative journalism from Baruch College in New York City, where she was born and raised, and was named Baruch Alum of the Year in 2024. Sottile has written two self-published books: the poetry memoir Pieces of Me and the children's book Guess Who, Mama Poo?, which is loosely based on her life and addresses growing up with sickle cell disease through poetry and artwork. She currently hosts and produces the monthly podcast The Advocate, The Power of Your Voice, which launched in September and focuses on health advocacy for sickle cell disease as well as the power of using one's voice. Sottile values authenticity and being genuine in her work, as demonstrated by her grassroots approach to finding an illustrator for her children's book rather than relying on AI tools.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Stacey

01What do you attribute your success to?

My faith, resilience, and not giving up. Every day is not always the best day, but hopefully tomorrow you'll wake up and be able to start fresh again without quitting.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Always have something in writing. An idea without action is a daydream. Back up your ideas and make them real so you have something to show people.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just be yourself. Be genuine, no one's perfect, but it depends on how far you're willing to commit to getting a job done.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities: social media allows putting your brand out there with no gatekeepers. Challenges: scheduling podcast guests who may cancel last minute, requiring ability to pivot.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity and being genuine. I went the old school route for my book instead of using AI, finding the perfect illustrator through grassroots effort because people appreciate someone that's genuine.
