Her Story
About Stacey
Stacey Thomas brings nearly four years of professional experience to her role in finance, financial planning and analysis, and operations within the cruise line industry. After beginning her career as a pricing analyst in the insurance sector, where she adjusted rates for RVs, boats, and motorcycles on a statewide level, she transitioned to her current position nearly two years ago and was promoted to senior within less than a year. In her role, Thomas advises project managers on budgeting capital projects and operational expenses, prepares journal entries and month-end reports affecting the profit and loss statement, and supports financial management during dry dock ship renovations valued between 75 and 100 million dollars. She earned her bachelor's degree in business analytics from FIU in 2022, which has supported her analytical work across industries. Among her achievements, Thomas developed a dashboard system with key performance indicators to provide directors greater visibility into departmental project management, on-time and on-budget performance, and funding requests. She has been nominated several times for employee of the quarter. Outside of work, Thomas occasionally volunteers with the Three Virtues Organization, which provides meals for the less fortunate, operates a food pantry, hosts fundraisers, and runs a summer camp. She attributes her success to her determination and continuous drive to grow and improve processes for long-term benefit. Thomas values kindness, a positive attitude, honesty, and assisting others whenever possible, and she advises persistence and assertiveness, particularly in male-dominated fields.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Stacey
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say my determination. I've always wanted to grow, I always want to be better with everything in personal life and in my career, so I'm always asking what can I improve, is there a gap here that I can fill to make it better for everyone long-term.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Make sure you're always at a steady level of work, output a steady level of work that is standard and consistent. The only thing that's constant is change, so get used to being uncomfortable.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just to be persistent. Be assertive. Especially in a male-dominated field, sometimes they don't like to listen.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The greatest challenge is getting project managers to listen and getting information to stick, which is why I created the dashboard with KPIs. The greatest opportunity would be to improve more processes, as the cruise industry is quite young and there's a lot of things to improve like efficiencies.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Always be kind, always have a good attitude no matter what's going on. Always be honest as you can, and help wherever you can, assist wherever you can with anything.
