About Stacie

Stacie Balletto is an assistant controller with over a decade of experience in accounting across venture-backed environments. She began her accounting career 12 years ago after earning a second degree in the field, following an initial degree in international politics with a minor in anthropology. Her early professional experience at a venture capital firm provided hands-on exposure to payroll, taxes, accounts receivable, accounts payable, equity accounting, purchase price accounting, and financial consolidations. Stacie has been with Invoca for eight years and has served as Assistant Controller for the past six years following a promotion. In this role she manages close processes, financial reporting, collections, team development, and audit readiness while emphasizing technical accounting and management responsibilities. She is currently under review for IMA membership and plans to complete her CMA exams in the coming year. Stacie attributes her success to persistent hard work, learning from mistakes, and a commitment to understanding complex topics thoroughly.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Stacie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute it to hard work. I make sure that if I don't understand something, I press on it until I understand it. I do the extra lift, I do the hard work to get to that level. Along the way, you're gonna make mistakes, as long as you're learning from them.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't be the smartest person in the room. You can learn so much from everyone that's around you. If you try to speak up at every moment or dominate the conversation, you lose out on so much that could be heard or taught.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Take a look at what you're passionate about. Own who you are and your personality before you pick exactly what you want to do in your career. A lot of people go to accounting and are told they have to do the CPA or Big Four path, but there's a lot of things you can do in accounting. Find what makes you happy and own your personality.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include sexual discrimination, fraudulent requests from executives, dismissals and passovers for promotions. Opportunities: It's the choices that you make. Getting yourself out there and in front of people is important. The opportunity isn't going to just be handed to you.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Act like an owner - own your decisions and your ownership. Family and friends first, care for people around you, always be open to other suggestions and ideas. Be compromising and understanding, hear the other person's opinion because everyone has a right to it and to be heard.
