About Stacie

Stacie Thompson has spent 30 years in the construction industry, where she specializes in ground-up construction of residential, light commercial, and multi-family structures along with renovations, additions, and remodels. Based in Arlington, Texas, she brings an accounting and finance background to her work and credits her practical knowledge to the School of Hard Knocks. Thompson is actively involved in projects such as the City of Fort Worth Land Bank affordable housing initiative. She maintains professional memberships in the Box Springs Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Home Builders, the National Association of Hispanic Contractors Association, and serves on the board of directors for CETOs in the building department. Thompson attributes her success to a strong determination forged by growing up poor and witnessing her parents' struggles. She values integrity, performing quality work without cutting corners, maintaining an attitude of gratitude, and serving others. As a woman in a male-dominated field, she notes the ongoing challenges of proving herself, facing condescension, and securing recognition and capital despite her extensive experience. Thompson advises aspiring professionals, especially young women, to partner with mentors or consultants when entering unfamiliar areas and to balance business investments with attention to personal well-being and family.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Stacie

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success has been attributed to my determination of not being poor. I grew up poor and saw my parents suffer, so that gave me the drive and determination to be successful in anything that I've ever put my hands on.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

If starting another business I'm not familiar with, team up with someone that knows the business, consult with them, learn the business before jumping in. It's not as easy as it looks. Team up with a coach or consultant or mentor and let them walk you through it step by step so you don't make the mistakes I made.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Definitely team up with someone, a coach or consultant, a mentor that knows the field. Also take time to invest not only in your business but in yourself, your mental health, as well as your family, because you can end up neglecting them while pouring everything into work.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Being a woman in a male-dominated industry, I constantly have to prove myself and work much harder. I get taken advantage of or disrespected, spoken to condescendingly. Also challenges with not having the right capital or exposure and not being recognized for accomplishments despite 30 years experience.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Practicing integrity, doing the best job that you can do without cutting corners, having an attitude of gratitude, and serving and helping others in the best way that I can.
