Ten minutes with Stacy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say my village and my dad. I'm a first-generation Guyanese-American, so my parents were not born here, and my dad served in the United States Army after 9-11, and was in Iraq for 2 years. So, he's just really taught me resilience. And just always, you know, he put us through private school, also put me through my bachelors, what I wanted to randomly move to California, he, you know, said, the fun is all you, but Ill help you pay your rent. So, like, my success is not I will say, like, Ive had so much help for my family from my family, and I really attribute it to my parents, and then, eventually, also, my husbands support later in life.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is: what’s not meant for you will pass you. At first, that was difficult to accept. Early in my career, I missed out on TV news opportunities I had worked incredibly hard for, and each rejection felt discouraging. Looking back, though, those setbacks opened the door to opportunities that were ultimately a much better fit for both my personal life and professional growth. One experience that stands out was interviewing for a morning news anchor position in Savannah, Georgia. When the salary didn’t align with the value I believed I could bring, I chose not to compromise. Shortly afterward, I was offered a corporate communications role in Massachusetts that paid significantly more and set me on an entirely different career path.

Today, I work remotely in a role I truly enjoy, and I can clearly see how those earlier disappointments were actually redirections. That advice has taught me to trust the process, advocate for my worth, and believe that the right opportunities will come at the right time.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would some great career advice that I think I would give is just stay hungry and curious, in this field, it's defining that early on in your career will really help shape your trajectory as you move forward.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in marketing, communications, and public relations right now is the highly competitive job market. There are many talented professionals competing for a limited number of opportunities, making it increasingly difficult to stand out, even with advanced education and a strong track record. During my own job search, I spent nearly a year applying for positions despite having an MBA and previous success securing roles quickly, which reinforced just how competitive the field has become.

Because of that, I believe professionals need to be intentional about finding ways to differentiate themselves. Building a strong personal brand, continuously expanding your skills, and leveraging your network are more important than ever. Referrals and personal connections can make a significant difference, so I encourage people to set pride aside and reach out to others on LinkedIn or through professional networks. The worst outcome is often no response, but the best outcome could be the opportunity that changes your career.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity, honesty, integrity, and family are the values that guide both my personal and professional life. I believe in staying true to myself, treating everyone with respect, and being honest with the intention of helping others. I'm also passionate about giving back by supporting children, veterans, and women through mentorship, philanthropy, and community partnerships. Above all, my faith and family keep me grounded and inspire me to encourage others to pursue their passions with confidence.
