Her Story

About Stella

I’ve been a pharmacist since 2011, spending the first decade of my career as a clinical pharmacist before transitioning into academia four years ago. I now serve in a leadership role within a Doctor of Pharmacy program, where I have the opportunity to guide both students and the future direction of the program.

I initially pursued computer science, but I soon realized my passion was in healthcare. Around that time, I met a pharmacist who became a mentor and role model. Hearing about her career and the meaningful work she did inspired me to pursue pharmacy myself.

Today, I am still passionate about the pharmacy profession and helping students understand that pharmacy is far from a linear profession. It offers a wide range of career paths and opportunities that continue to expand as the profession evolves. I encourage students to explore different areas during their clinical rotations, remain open to new possibilities, and recognize that the potential for pharmacists today is greater than ever.

Ten minutes with Stella

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success first and foremost to my parents for their sacrifices and unwavering support throughout my life. They have stepped in time and again to help care for my children, making it possible for me to pursue the career I have today. I also credit my husband for his partnership and constant support. His help in balancing family life has been invaluable to my career.

Beyond that, I owe so much to my village—my friends, family, and everyone who has been there for me. We support one another and help each other navigate both motherhood and our careers. Without all of them, I would not be where I am today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was that nothing is impossible. Early in my career, whenever I faced a new challenge, I would often feel nervous and wonder if I was capable of succeeding. I would always replay those words in my head.

I truly believe that, and it is advice I now share with the students I work with today: there is nothing you cannot do if you are willing to put in the effort and believe in yourself. Reaching your goals starts with confidence and determination. If you commit to the work and trust in your abilities, there is no limit to what you can achieve.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The advice I give to young women entering pharmacy is that the profession is not linear. There are so many opportunities within the field that many people may not fully realize. My advice is to explore all that pharmacy has to offer and stay open to the many different paths available.

Take full advantage of opportunities during clinical rotations and throughout school to learn what areas interest you most. Pharmacy has grown tremendously as a profession. What was once seen primarily as hospital or retail now includes countless career options, with pharmacists playing valuable roles in many settings.

The possibilities are truly endless, so take the time to explore and discover where your passions and strengths can lead you.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are honesty and treating others with kindness. I believe in showing up authentically and being true to myself. I also value growth and am always striving to improve and evolve, both professionally and personally.

Another value that is especially important to me is confidence. I believe confidence is essential in achieving anything you want in life. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about balancing ambition with compassion, success with humility, and confidence with the desire to uplift others.

These values reflect not only my accomplishments, but also the way I lead and empower those around me.
