Her Story

About Stephanie

As the owner and general manager of Pleasure Rest Mattress, I literally do it all. My responsibilities span customer service, making sure that the production team is on task with orders, working with human resources, processing payroll, and helping design mattress styles. I have been able to develop this company with my father and continue a legacy that he has built. To me, that's probably one of the biggest achievements. One of the biggest challenges I face is that this field is very male dominant. Being a female, I am very much pro-females. I love seeing women in power, and also being Latina, to me, that is also something that can be very impactful, being in a male-led type of industry. There can be challenges where you're not seen with the same type of respect, or there can be doubt that you don't really know or understand what you're doing, but it's all on the contrary. I am somebody, I'm what you call a go-getter, so if I can't figure it out, I literally do not give up. I will continue until I figure out whatever it is. If a mattress isn't coming out the way we want it to, I will not stop until we get it to the T.

Ten minutes with Stephanie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say to the discipline and perseverance that I have. I am somebody, I'm what you call a go-getter, so if I can't figure it out, I literally do not give up. I will continue until I figure out whatever it is. Let it be on, if a mattress isn't coming out the way we want it to, I will not stop until we get it to the T.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Probably one of the best career advice that I have received is to remain grounded and true to myself within the field. Again, there's always going to be challenges, let it be with customers, with employees, but always remaining true to myself and grounded within my beliefs and what I've learned, I think that's something that is one of the best advice that someone has given me, and it was actually my father.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to really stay true to yourself and your beliefs. We're in a world where social media has taken over, and you kind of get lost within the matrix, and you see something, and you're like, well, I have to be like that person, or my business needs to be like that person because they're successful, which I don't agree with. I have stayed true to myself, and I know what I want. So not changing that at all. Somebody is going to believe in your product and what you do, and then it's just going to grow from there. One person will tend to believe in you.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say consistency, discipline, accountability, and being resilient. I think those are the ones that, those are the words that are coming to my mind right now.
