Her Story

About Stephanie

Stephanie Bushey serves as Department Head and Lead Editor at M1 Studios in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. She began her career there in 2014 as an intern after earning her bachelor's degree in Media Arts from Wayne State University. Over more than a decade, she advanced from intern to freelance to part-time and eventually to her current leadership role managing the post-production department and a team of editors while handling client projects from concept through delivery. Bushey has developed a reputation for her attention to detail and ability to create emotionally impactful videos, such as those for the Henry Ford Health Harvest Moon Ball annually.

She is passionate about supporting veterans through initiatives like Veterans Last Patrol, where she writes greeting cards for those in hospice care, and Meals on Wheels, where she has volunteered as a driver - values she learned from her grandparents who modeled giving back. Bushey credits her success to being a driven person who seeks solutions and refuses to let fear limit her, an important skill set in her male-dominated industry where she advises young women to pursue what compels them without concern for others' expectations.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Stephanie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I’m a very driven person, and I’ve never been someone who simply accepts the status quo. I’m always looking for solutions and ways to move things forward. That mindset has taken me to some incredible places, both professionally and personally. I’ve traveled the world several times over all on my own, and those experiences reinforced my belief that you can’t let fear limit you. Some of the best opportunities in my life have come from being willing to take a chance, trust myself, and step outside my comfort zone.

I was also very fortunate to grow up with a lot of people who believed in me and encouraged me to believe in myself. That support gave me the confidence to aim high, work hard, and keep pushing forward. No doubt, I wouldn't be who I am without their love and support.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just go for it. Put aside expectations and what people may think of you. Don't place a lot of importance on that, and just go toward what you are compelled to do. You might surprise yourself. Things will work out the way they're meant to.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being humble is really important. There's a lot of egos in my industry. You go a lot further when you realize that you can always learn something from the next person and that you don't know everything. That mentality helps you work as a team.
