Her Interview
Ten minutes with Stephanie
01What do you attribute your success to?
My mother has always instilled being very independent and hardworking. Ever since I was young she gave me everything I needed but if I wanted anything more she would always push me to get a job. She always pushed me to do good in school and I think that me getting the education that I got was in pursuit of her always pushing me and making her proud. She definitely pushes me now at work with a strong work ethic.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Just kind of be a go-getter. Take care of yourself. We get really close to our coworkers and we may pass up an opportunity because we don't want to let them down and truly we have to put ourselves first and not let ourselves down and make sure that if an opportunity arises you take it.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You always want to look at every person and opportunity as a way to grow and to learn. Don't take for granted the connections that you make with individuals along the way because it can truly help you grow. Everyone along your path contributes. It's really important to keep those connections and look at others to help mentor you into what you could be.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges include an uptake of injuries possibly due to lower morale leading employees to be less careful, and more heat exhaustion from intense weather. Opportunities include room for growth such as a promotion to property and liability program manager position within the department, which aligns more with my experience in liability.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty is a big one. If you do honest work you're going to have high work ethic and everything you do affects others. Knowing that anything that you do does have an impact, maybe small or maybe large, but definitely always keeping that in mind. Being honest with yourself and being honest with others as to how much you're putting into your work.
