About Stephanie

Kathryn Hampton is the founder of wellness pet clinic events for the unhoused. She began this work after participating in the Occupy movement in her town, where conversations with unhoused individuals revealed many had dogs and cats. Noticing the strong bonds they shared with their pets, she contacted a local veterinarian college's shelter medicine club to organize wellness clinics. The events include veterinary services from vet students, a chili feed, harnessing stations, free stores for cats and dogs, and pet portraits. Kathryn organizes volunteers, many of whom were former clients, and secures grants such as a $500 award from Feeding Pets of the Homeless for vaccines, along with ongoing donations of supplies and food from Animal Crackers Pet Supply and PetSmart. What started as charity has grown into a community that supports public health and motivates participants toward housing while providing free muzzles, leashes, and other essentials. As an ENFP in the Myers-Briggs framework known for being empathetic and a campaigner, she calls participants before events to ensure they can attend despite chaotic circumstances and hopes to replicate the model in other towns with veterinary colleges.
