Her Story

About Stephanie

Stephanie Lumbra is a Technical Claim Specialist in Construction Defect, a position she stepped into after building nearly six years of experience across the insurance industry. Her professional focus lies in litigation management and insurance coverage issues, with particular skill in reviewing subcontractor contracts and evaluating coverage questions that span multiple state jurisdictions. Before moving into her current role, she spent a year and a half working general liability litigation claims and another two and a half years managing claims related to asbestos and environmental exposure, giving her a broad foundation in complex, high-stakes claim handling.

Stephanie's path into insurance was shaped by an unconventional journey: she returned to school after her divorce to earn a BA in Business, having previously spent four to five years working as a legal assistant. That legal background, paired with her formal business education, has given her a well-rounded perspective on both the technical and interpersonal sides of claims work. She continues to invest in her professional growth through CLM accreditation training tailored to insurance construction professionals, having already completed the program's first year, and she maintains an active membership with CLM.

Outside of the specific milestones on her resume, Stephanie credits much of her professional resilience to her background as an athlete and powerlifter, which instilled in her a mindset of perseverance and the discipline to push through obstacles. She approaches her work and personal life guided by honesty, integrity, and a commitment to continuous learning, while also being intentional about setting boundaries, prioritizing her children, and stepping away from relationships that no longer serve her growth. As a woman navigating a male-dominated field, she is a vocal advocate for networking, self-advocacy, and encouraging the next generation to keep learning and never give up on themselves.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Stephanie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance and refusing to give up on myself. My background as an athlete and powerlifter taught me how to push through challenges and dig deep, even when things get difficult.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is to make myself, my education, and my career path a priority. I was also fortunate to have a mentor who consistently reminded me of my abilities and encouraged me to keep pushing myself forward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell them to never give up on themselves and to keep learning throughout their careers. It's important to stand up for yourself in a respectful way, communicate clearly, and advocate for your own interests. I'd also encourage them to put themselves out there and build meaningful professional connections.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is that this remains a male-dominated field. That said, there are endless opportunities available through networking and putting yourself out there. I also find that no two claims are ever the same, which keeps the work engaging and works well with how my mind operates, including managing my ADHD.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty, integrity, and knowing how to do my job well are central to how I operate. I've also learned to create distance from people who no longer serve my growth, to prioritize my children's needs, and to compartmentalize and say no when necessary to protect my time and energy.
