Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my sense of survival and the innate knowledge that where I was at was not my final destination, ever. I just knew there was more to my life, and I didn't know what it was. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I knew innately that that wasn't it for me, that I had big things coming, and I wasn't sure what it looked like, but I was going to keep on pushing because I had to get there, whatever that was. I've come to feel that my entire life is full of purpose, not just one big final destination. Everything happens in the time that it's meant to happen. There were so many times I kicked myself because I've not yet released my first book, and I've been so hard on myself, but with the encouragement of a couple of close people and with my own reflection, I realized it didn't come out yet because it wasn't meant to come out yet. My perseverance and the ability to move through things and conquer has truly led to where I am today in my career and my life. Going through unhealthy relationships and being raised in difficult situations, I was able to observe the type of life that I didn't want to have and that I didn't want for my children.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think a lot of women feel less power than what we really have within us. This is a world where we absolutely need men, but the women are important too. There are a lot of ways that we might feel we can contribute, but we don't know how important that looks to other people. What matters the most is that we believe in ourselves, and we present what we have to offer, because somebody's gonna say yes. I think it's so important to stay the course, because there are going to be a lot of no's before you get that yes that really matters. For me, I have children to prove some things to. I have to make sure that they see what you can do with your life, see what you can do for yourself and how you can overcome. There are so many ways to overcome something, and it looks different for everybody. It's so important to really just tune in to yourself and know what's gonna be best for you instead of comparing yourself to what other people are doing. It should be a no-judgment zone, in my opinion. People need people, really. We're really all the same, and some people have just made a wrong turn. When people are in addiction, they're not a bad person, they may have just made a bad choice that took hold of them. So it's about having a good heart and just following your heart in life.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

It's incredibly important to me to spend time with my family, which means the world to me. I have a 24-year-old son, a 10-year-old daughter, and an 8-year-old son, and I work diligently to provide them an amazing life and better experiences than what I always dreamed of for them. You cannot pour from an empty cup, so I focus on bettering my life every day. I learned, and I didn't learn it for a very long time, that I have to really care for myself before I care so much about caregiving people. I always thought that would be selfish, but that is so necessary and important, because you really cannot pour from an empty cup. One thing I do regularly is go to the gym. After having thyroid cancer, I got a whole brand new me. I decided I'm tired of being stressed out, I'm tired of feeling unhealthy, so I got into the gym last year. I really stress that in order for this to work for anybody, you have to be dedicated, because it's not easy, but it's definitely a lifestyle change in order for it to stay. I have a routine where literally every day I either walk or do a full workout every other day. I also have a relationship, so I have a special person in my life, and we make it a point to have a date night once a week so we can stay in touch. I was me before I was a mom, and I had to regain that. It's important to really keep your hobbies. I write, so I'm working on my books, and I'm my kids' biggest supporter.
