Stephanie D. Miller
Stephanie Miller is an experienced Accounts Receivable Director based in Akron, Ohio, with over 14 years of expertise spanning medical billing, customer service, and financial operations. Her career began in healthcare billing, where she developed a strong foundation in insurance processes, claims management, and client relations. She later expanded her skill set in the fire protection industry, managing administrative operations and scheduling for commercial life safety systems, before transitioning into commercial real estate as a project manager. Currently serving as the Accounts Receivable Director at Skypoint Recovery, Stephanie has found a role that aligns both with her professional strengths and personal values. She leads billing operations with a focus on insurance coordination, appeals, and securing retro-authorizations, ensuring the financial sustainability of programs that support individuals in recovery. Stephanie also holds a secondary position with another recovery center called Superior Behavioral Health where she focuses on employee relations as a Human Resources Executive Assistant. This role allows her to support behind-the-scenes operations that serve as a backbone to the organization’s mission, ensuring staff are supported, processes run smoothly, and the care teams can remain focused on delivering compassionate, effective treatment to those on their recovery journey. Driven by compassion and purpose, Stephanie is passionate about contributing to an organization that prioritizes healing and transformation over profit. A survivor of thyroid cancer, domestic violence, and an advocate for awareness, she brings resilience, empathy, and a deep appreciation for life into both her work and personal mission. Stephanie believes in continuous growth and lives by the principle that every day offers an opportunity to learn, give back, and help others rebuild their lives. With those beliefs in mind, she is also author to a duology on her experience with thyroid cancer as well as her autobiography covering her experience with domestic violence. She is in the process of self-publishing and will have links to share very soon. Another passion and interest is public speaking. This is something she would love to expand on, eventually generating income interest paid speaking engagements.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my sense of survival and the innate knowledge that my current situation was not my final destination. I just knew there was more to my life, but I didn't know what the future held or what it would look like. I have always believed that God had a plan for me, so I had to trust the process and keep on pushing. I've come to believe that my entire life is a journey full of purpose. Everything happens in the time that it's meant to happen. There were so many times I kicked myself because I've not yet released my first book, but with the encouragement of a couple of close people and with my own reflection, I realized it wasn't published yet because it wasn't time. My perseverance and the ability to overcome unimaginable circumstances has truly led to where I am today in my career and my personal life. I am thankful for all of my life's experiences, as they have made me the woman I am today.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Stephanie feels as her own perseverance and the ability to conquer adversities has truly led to where she is today in her career and her life. Going through unhealthy relationships, and being raised in difficult situations she was able to observe the type of life that she didn't want to have and that she didn't want for her children. She now focuses on doing what she can for herself and being able to pour into others the best parts of herself. She is focused on building her career and being able to inspire others with her story and in sharing her journey, to motivate others and help them thrive.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I think a lot of women possess more power than what we give ourselves credit for. This is a world where we absolutely need men, but women's contributions are important too. What matters the most is that we believe in ourselves, and we present what we have to offer, because somebody's going to see our worth. It's so important to stay the course, because there are going to be a lot of no's before you get that yes that really matters. I have children to prove that to. I have to make sure that they see what you can do with your life, see what you can do for others and how you can overcome. There are so many ways to succeed, and it looks different for everybody. It's so important to really just tune in to yourself and know what's going to be best for you instead of comparing yourself to others.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In the field of recovery, it's tough knowing we can't save everyone, as some just aren't ready. But that fact alone that they've made the step to try is a catalyst to putting our best efforts into the programs and pray for the best outcome. Opportunities to help others while continuing to grow personally are ever-present. Seeing the hard work and dedication in our clients gives me even more motivation to continue on my own path of personal and professional growth.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I focus on becoming a better version of myself each day, personally and professionally. We are never too old to learn, nor too young to teach. I learned a bit later in life that I have to really care for myself before I can care for other people. I always thought that would be selfish, but I realize now that it is so necessary, because you cannot pour from an empty cup. One thing I do regularly is go to the gym. After having thyroid cancer, I had to embrace a new version of me. I decided to get back into the gym last year, and it's been such a journey! It hasn't been easy, but dedicating myself to lifestyle changes that are sustainable, I have proven that we can be healthier in our forties than we've ever been! Having one grown child who lives on his own and two school age children at home, I try to maintain a healthy balance. It is so important to not lose your individuality while building a career and being a mom. I also have a relationship with a very special man, and we make it a point to have a date night once a week so we can stay in touch. Aside from that, I am an author soon to be self-publishing, and I aspire to speak publicly and on podcasts for many relatable topics.
