Ten minutes with Stephanie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance, adaptability, and a genuine desire to make a difference in others’ lives. Starting work at 14 taught me the value of hard work and responsibility, while my career journey—from pharmacy to physical therapy—taught me to embrace change and pursue what truly fulfills me. Despite the challenges of completing my education during the COVID-19 pandemic, I remained committed to growing professionally and developing as a leader. Today, my experience across various rehabilitation settings and my role as a Director of Rehabilitation continue to inspire my goal of creating a clinic where patients can heal physically while also feeling supported, valued, and empowered.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received has come from my parents, who taught me the importance of perseverance, hard work, and believing in myself. Their example showed me that even when you start with very little, you can pursue your dreams with dedication and resilience. My teachers and professors reinforced this lesson by showing me that a long career in healthcare can remain fulfilling when you genuinely care about your patients. Their example encouraged me to embrace change, continue growing, and find meaningful ways to serve others.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering healthcare is to be prepared to work hard, stay committed, and genuinely care about the people you serve. Leadership comes with stress, responsibility, and difficult decisions, but those challenges become meaningful when you recognize the positive difference you can make in someone’s life. Success is not simply about earning a title; it is about serving others with compassion and leaving a lasting impact.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in physical therapy is navigating insurance restrictions, particularly limitations on length of stay and approved therapy visits, which can prevent patients from receiving the care they truly need. At the same time, I see tremendous opportunities within rehabilitation, with diverse paths in pediatrics, orthopedics, neurology, geriatrics, and home health. This variety allows professionals to continue learning, avoid burnout, and find new ways to serve others. I believe the field offers endless opportunities to grow, lead, and make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My Christian faith, compassion, empathy, and genuine care for others are the values that guide me in both my work and personal life. I strive to treat people with kindness, encourage them through challenges, and remind them of their worth and potential. In my work, one of the most rewarding experiences is helping patients regain not only their physical abilities but also their confidence and hope. I believe being a source of encouragement and support can make a lasting difference in someone’s life.
