About Stephanie

Stephanie Shack is an accomplished legal executive and real estate attorney with more than 27 years of experience advising organizations across the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. As General Counsel for Mid-Atlantic Builders, she serves as the company's first in-house legal leader, building and strengthening its legal function while providing strategic counsel on corporate governance, compliance, contracts, risk management, and business operations. A graduate of Emory University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree, Stephanie has earned a reputation as a trusted advisor who combines legal expertise with practical business insight to help organizations achieve their objectives.

Before joining Mid-Atlantic Builders, Stephanie held senior legal leadership positions at Continental Realty Corporation, Enterprise Community Investment, Inc., Corporate Office Properties Trust, and The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation. Throughout her distinguished career, she has advised on complex real estate transactions involving office, retail, multifamily, and custom home developments, including leasing, acquisitions, dispositions, financing, labor and employment matters, intellectual property, litigation management, and dispute resolution. Known for her collaborative leadership style, exceptional negotiation skills, and commitment to transparency and integrity, she focuses on delivering practical, business-oriented legal solutions while fostering high-performing teams and strong stakeholder relationships.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Stephanie is deeply committed to community service and leadership. She serves as President of the Board of Directors for GEDCO, a nonprofit dedicated to affordable housing and supportive services, and holds board leadership roles with organizations including United Way of Central Maryland, the Maryland Book Bank, and Broadway Hearts. An active member of the Association of Corporate Counsel, the National Association of Women Lawyers, and CREW Baltimore, Stephanie is also a frequent speaker on leadership and the evolving legal profession. Outside of work, she enjoys sports, reading, travel, and spending time with her two rescue dogs, reflecting her belief in balancing professional excellence with meaningful community engagement and personal fulfillment.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to humility, a willingness to listen and learn, and treating everyone with respect regardless of their role. The guidance and support of my mentors and colleagues have also played a significant role in my growth.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to never be afraid of starting something new. Embracing new opportunities and challenges has been key to my personal and professional growth.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to never stop learning. Stay curious, continue building your skills, and embrace every opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that matter most to me in both my work and personal life are transparency and integrity. I believe in being honest, building trust, and always doing the right thing.
