Her Story

About Stephanie

I started my career in retail, managing stores and doing marketing for big corporations. One day, I had this opportunity to quit it all and work with a roofing company, which was a small business where I would run everything from their operations to everything else. The kicker was I was able to be home with my kids every night and didn't have to work weekends. I took a leap of faith, and it changed my entire life. Now I wear many hats - I'm a nonprofit leader and chairwoman of fundraising for my nonprofit, I work for another nonprofit that's entrepreneurial-based, I have my own consulting business where I help business owners really catapult to the next level by a mindset change, and I'm an executive assistant at a high-end interior commercial company. Every day is different for me. I build relationships, follow up, make ideas come to life, work on marketing campaigns, and I love to bring people together. I do a lot of outreach to introduce people to each other and create new programs. I just created this new program for our city where children in foster care will be getting tutors and free meals during their visitations with their family. I work with tribes all over the country on housing, trying to build up communities for Native people so they can own houses and give them opportunities they've never had before. At the end of the day, I'm a full-time mom - that's my favorite role out of everything and my inspiration and motivation. I really love bringing opportunity to people and letting them know that anything they want is absolutely possible.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Stephanie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience and my mindset. Every single time I fall, there's a way to get up. My resilience is literally what I feel has attributed to my success. I never give up, no matter what challenges come my way.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was that in order to do stuff for others, I have to do for myself first, and build my own versus giving from an empty cup. So much of my time when I first started, I was giving everything to everybody - my time, all my work, all my attention - because I'm here to change the world and help people help themselves. But I wasn't helping me, and I was just getting burnt out. Once I started putting that effort into me and what got me excited within my work, so many opportunities opened up around me. I was a yes person, saying yes to everything, and I had to learn to say no. I had to say yes to things that would benefit my future long-run goals and learn to put myself first when I never was for the longest. It was work for others, and there's gotta be balance.
