Her Story

About Stephanie

I've been protecting the public for 19 years in armed security. I started out as a regular security officer, then advanced to become an armed Special Police Officer (SPO) in DC. From there, I obtained my Utah and Maryland credentials, which allows me to work in 32 other states, and I went on to get my Federal Protection Services (FPS) certification. For the past 18 years, I've been doing executive protection work, protecting entire families for different security and law enforcement companies. I've worked on district government contracts and federal contracts, including at the Consumer Financial Building across from the White House. My typical day involves getting my orders and report, going on my detail, looking for suspicious activity, making sure my clients are safe, doing a lot of patrolling and walking around, and trying to stay incognito. I work at federal buildings, district government buildings, residential properties, commercial warehouses, and grocery stores - wherever security surveillance is needed. At the end of each day, I do a lot of praying, hoping that if an intruder or criminal comes, that I am protected and covered, and my client is protected and covered, and that I'm able to go home to my family. The most rewarding part of my work is being recognized for the job I've done and when families or clients come out and thank me for my services.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Make sure that it's something that you truly want to do from the heart, and not because of the money. Just stay humble, have patience. Because in the world this day's society, we're dealing with all kind of mental people, and sometimes you have to put yourself down into their world to try and keep the situation de-escalated without escalating it. And this is really about patience.
