What do you attribute your success to?
At first, I thought about attributing my success to my support system, my friends, and my family, and those things that keep me going. But for me, at the end of the day, my career is something that I have always wanted. I have always been driven to do more, and do better, and help others. So really it comes down to me. I don't want to sound selfish, but I attribute everything to me. If I didn't have the little boosts of confidence on a daily basis and things like that, I just wouldn't be where I am. I want to thank myself for sticking to it and just being a confident and bright woman, and knowing that I was able to do something and make a difference in the world.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is simple: it’s never too late. I have been a student for most of my adult life and changed my major several times while trying to determine what path was right for me. At one point, I even took a year and a half away from school to reflect on my goals and figure out where I truly wanted to be. That time allowed me to realize that I wanted to help people within the workforce.
Because I have personally experienced what it feels like to be overlooked or unsupported in the workplace, I am passionate about helping others navigate their careers. I want young women to understand that changing directions, continuing your education, and taking the time to discover your purpose are all valid parts of the journey. I will be earning my bachelor’s degree in my 30s, and I am proud of that accomplishment. Everyone’s path is different, and growth can happen at any stage in life.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Helping others and making a meaningful difference in people’s lives are the most important values to me. My career in recruiting allows me to support individuals in finding opportunities that can improve their lives, and that sense of purpose motivates me every day.
I also strongly value perseverance, confidence, and self-reliance. My journey into recruiting was unconventional—I spent ten years working as a custodian before transitioning into HR and learning the recruiting process largely on my own. Those experiences strengthened my resilience and reinforced my belief that determination and confidence can open doors to new opportunities.
