Her Story
About Suheily
Suheily Fontanez is a seasoned medical and risk adjustment coder who also serves as Founder and CEO of Timeless Tread LLC, a business dedicated to empowering brands through custom uniforms, campaign gear, promotional merchandise, and seasonal event T-shirts. Over more than a decade in the industry, she has built a career centered on Medicare claims and risk adjustment coding, developing fluency across seven to eight different specialties along the way. After relocating to the United States about 15 years ago, she made a deliberate choice to pursue medical billing and coding rather than culinary school, a decision shaped by her desire to build a career that would also support her family's needs. She went on to earn her diploma in medical billing and coding from Florida Technical College, adding to a bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing she had already completed at Interamerican University. Beyond her coding work, Fontanez is recognized as an AAPC Certified Instructor, a role that reflects her commitment to mentorship and education within the field. She has spent years training students and guiding coworkers through the practical realities of billing and coding, often designing hands-on exercises that mirror the workflows of an actual practice. Her professional approach is grounded in precision, she prioritizes accurate documentation and audit-ready records as a way to protect providers financially while minimizing compliance risk. This attention to detail is matched by a strong ethical foundation, as she places significant weight on confidentiality, integrity, and safeguarding patient information in every aspect of her work. In recognition of her contributions to the field, she was recently selected to be featured among the Influential Women of 2026. Fontanez credits much of her professional growth to adaptability and a continual willingness to learn new specialties, systems, and software, paired with the patience to give herself grace as she works through new challenges. She often advises newcomers to the field, particularly women, to design a workflow suited to their own strengths rather than imitating someone else's system, believing this approach builds both efficiency and confidence over time. Outside of her technical expertise, she brings the same values into her personal life that guide her professionally, treating others with the same kindness and respect she hopes to receive, and working to maintain a steady balance between her career and home life. Her story reflects not only technical mastery of a complex and ever-changing field, but a genuine dedication to lifting up the people she works alongside.

Ten minutes with Suheily
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to flexibility and adaptability. I've always been willing to learn new specialties, new software, and new processes to apply en every aspect of my life, and I make it a point to give myself grace as I grow through challenges along the way. What is important is not the way you fall is How you stand and start walking again that matters.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've received is to find a workflow that works for you rather than simply copying someone else's process. Once you develop a system that fits your own strengths, you become more efficient, more accurate, and more confident, while making fewer mistakes.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I'd tell them to never give up on their dreams. If something matters to you, pursue it wholeheartedly, and don't be afraid to ask for opportunities, you'll never know what's possible unless you try. Be willing to put in the effort it takes to reach your goals, and remember to maintain balance between your work and personal life along the way.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
This field offers a wealth of opportunity, there are so many specialties and work settings to choose from. At the same time, it requires continuous education, since coding guidelines and Medicare rules change every year, and pursuing additional certifications is often necessary to move into specialized areas.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Professionally, I hold myself to high standards of ethics, professionalism, and confidentiality, especially when it comes to protecting patient information. Personally, I believe in treating others the way I want to be treated, leading with kindness and empathy, and maintaining a healthy balance between my work and my personal life.
