About Sumera

Sumera Ackbarali, PhD, CHCP, MLS(ASCP)HTL, MDxT(AAB), AHI(AMT) is an accomplished education professional with extensive experience in both academia and continuing medical education. She began her career in 2009 in clinical biology programs at Barry University, where she taught and developed undergraduate and graduate courses, managed laboratory operations, and guided students through didactic course work as well as Histotechnology/Medical Laboratory Sciences clinical experiences. A strong believer in being a well-rounded individual, Dr. Ackbarali ensured that her clinical laboratory sciences students had the opportunity to be exposed to research methodology and scholarly presentation while preparing for their practical training. Her work in program evaluation, accreditation, and curriculum design has contributed to the advancement of clinical laboratory education. Transitioning from traditional academic roles in 2020, Dr. Ackbarali has focused on medical education through scientific roles at PlatformQ Health (now Medlive) and CMEsquared, overseeing the design and implementation of continuing medical education programs across multiple therapeutic areas, including dermatology, hematology, infectious diseases, and rare diseases. Her work emphasizes evidence-based, patient-centered approaches to care, ensuring that clinicians stay current with clinical advances. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a commitment to fostering professional growth, compassionate care, and practical application of knowledge in clinical settings. Dr. Ackbarali earned her PhD in Health Sciences from Nova Southeastern University, exploring health behaviors and protection motivation during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also holds a Master of Science in Anatomy, two Bachelor of Science degrees (Biology, Pre-Med and Clinical Biology), and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Histotechnology from Barry University. She is also a certified Histotechnologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, and Molecular Diagnostic Technologist. A member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Dr. Ackbarali has contributed to professional publications, volunteer initiatives, and educational outreach, reflecting her dedication to lifelong learning, mentorship, and improving patient outcomes through high-quality medical education.

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success is a result of the love and support of my family, unwavering faith in God, the guidance I have received from my mentors, and the belief that hard work and perseverance lead you where you are meant to be.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To young women entering this industry, I would say: stay true to yourself and let your values guide both your work and your interactions. Embrace curiosity and commit to lifelong learning, as growth comes from continuously expanding your knowledge and skills. Be adaptable in the face of change but maintain clear boundaries to protect your well-being and integrity.
