About Sumi
Sumi Khan began her career in the media industry in 1993 and has accumulated around 34 years of experience as a journalist and investigative reporter. She earned her master's degree in mass communication and journalism from Rajshahi University, the second largest university in Bangladesh. Khan recently completed an AI fellowship focused on ethical journalism in artificial intelligence. She previously held leadership positions as Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity and Women Affairs Secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists, a rights body representing over 4,000 journalists, to which she was elected in May 2024. Her achievements include receiving the IWMS Careerity Award 2005 from the International Roman Media Foundation as well as recognition among the top three awards worldwide, including the Guardian Hugo Young Award approximately 21 years ago. Currently in exile in San Francisco and planning to relocate to New York, Khan continues to advocate for journalists, women, and vulnerable communities through her work in media and human rights.
