About Sumire
Sumire Sumi serves as Vice President of the Johns Hopkins Student Government Association in her first term, having previously worked as executive secretary. She began her involvement with SGA during her freshman year and has accumulated three years of experience there, including initiatives related to dining services and menstrual product availability. In addition to her student government work, Sumi is completing an internship at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health through the Summer Job Program, where she contributes to a public health project on HIV prevention. Her other experiences include work with the Institution of Cultural Affairs in Tokyo on public health projects in Nepal focused on improving female sanitary conditions in public schools, a medical internship in Cambodia at a public hospital in NICU and pediatrics, and volunteer work at an orphanage in Kenya where she helped revitalize the education system and donated computers. Sumi aspires to attend medical school and ultimately work with Doctors Without Borders to build hospital systems in conflict or poverty-stricken areas.
