Her Story
About Summer
Summer Ames has been in the slime industry for about 5 to 6 years. She holds a bachelor's degree in health science and previously worked in personal training and property management. What began as a hobby making slime with her daughter quickly grew into a business after she started posting ASMR and slime content on Instagram. Followers requested products, leading to sales from her home kitchen that eventually required an industrial mixer and a move to a dedicated shop. Ames created the Slime Baking Kit after viral videos of baking with slime ingredients, which remains the company's signature offering. The e-commerce business at slimecommunity.com now plans to expand with a storefront providing interactive slime baking experiences for families. She attributes her success to staying curious and being resilient, viewing failure as part of the entrepreneurial journey. Ames values integrity, authenticity, consistency, and resilience in her work and personal life.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Summer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think staying curious. I think letting my curiosity lead me, because that keeps me open-minded and open to more creativity, more input from people that may not have thought out otherwise. Being resilient has been a big part of my journey. I don't think that failure has the wrong connotation. I think it's an inevitable part of entrepreneurship, and as long as you learn and grow, it's just part of the journey.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I have a favorite quote that's by Henry Ford, and it says, whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right. Through this journey, it's taken so much building up of myself. It's building a business, but also making me a better person along the way, and being a leader for my employees, and showing up with integrity and resilience and the authenticity, and just really being able to believe in yourself and your vision. One of the most important things you can do.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is really important to me, and being able to be honest, not only with myself, because that allows me to grow and be a better person, but also with my product and what I'm developing. If you make a mistake, and you take ownership for it, I feel like the response is, you've created a stronger customer. Resilience and authenticity, being your true, authentic self. Consistency. I think you have to show up every day, whether I feel like it or not. You can't wait to feel motivated. You have to show up, and you have to show up consistently.
