Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I learned a lot about the product, learning about all facets of the garage door industry, and learning different positions along the way. I was not always in sales. I started from the ground up, and just grew and learned and did things. I mean, I just made it work. Just striving to always better yourself, striving to do something more. That's what has driven my success over these 22 years in the industry.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

To not be afraid of change. Because that change, most of the time, will bring you growth. I apply this in my everyday life by trusting that everything is going to be okay. The job change recently was one example of how I applied this. I pray and I look for guidance, and I feel comfortable with the decisions I make because I'm trusting that God's not going to lead me down a path that's not going to be good for me.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To stand up for what you believe in, to not be afraid to say that you're capable of doing what you're doing. I've had a lot of pushback because it's a men's world a lot of time in construction, and that's still there, unfortunately. But you know, you can be respectful, and you can be knowledgeable, and do your job. And if the people are naysaying you, just prove them wrong. You don't have to say anything. Let your actions prove that you know what you're doing.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Right now, there is a building slowdown in the area. So it's always a challenge to continue to grow in your sales. It's getting out there, hitting the pavement, going to job sites of builders that you don't currently have. Just driving my work truck around, getting our name out there. So marketing and all of those things right now for our company are a big challenge. It's like starting over, and it's a newer business, so our name isn't out there, so it's getting our name out there and making it happen.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

To be trustworthy. It's very important to me that they can count on me, that I'm gonna do my work and get it done. I'm very honest. It's one of the things, I'm not your typical salesperson. If you're looking at a product that I think is probably not the best choice or the best quality, I'm going to say so. And even if it means that I'm not going to make as much money on a sale, I will guide the customer for the best quality for what they're looking for.
