Her Story

About Susan

Susan Bond is a seasoned publishing editor, desktop publishing specialist, and administrative professional whose career spans more than five decades across a wide range of industries. A self-employed editor and publisher for over 20 years, she has built a reputation for helping authors transform manuscripts into professionally published books. Susan manages every stage of the publishing process, including editing, formatting, layout design, and preparing manuscripts to meet Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing standards. With multiple long-term author partnerships, including an ongoing 10-book publishing agreement, she is known for her meticulous attention to detail, commitment to quality, and ability to consistently deliver projects on time.

Throughout her career, Susan has accumulated extensive experience in accounting, administration, workflow management, grants administration, and brand management. Her strongest expertise lies in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cost accounting, where she worked with multimillion-dollar aerospace organizations handling complex financial coding and reporting. A self-taught professional and hands-on learner, Susan has continually expanded her skills through determination, adaptability, and a willingness to master new challenges. In addition to her publishing work, she holds certification in web design and has successfully applied her broad business knowledge across a variety of professional settings.

Susan’s journey has been defined by perseverance and a commitment to excellence. One of her proudest achievements came in the 1970s when she pursued law enforcement studies at a time when women faced significant barriers in the field. Through hard work and determination, she earned the respect of her instructors and distinguished herself in a male-dominated environment. Outside of her professional life, Susan enjoys photography, exploring Oregon’s scenic landscapes with her son, and spending time with her beloved animals. A passionate advocate for animal welfare, she volunteered for four years at a wolf sanctuary and continues to support wildlife conservation efforts through her ongoing contributions to animal protection organizations.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Susan

01What do you attribute your success to?

Perseverance. I'm stubborn. I always want to do the best work that I can do, and I take pride in everything that I do.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Study hard. I worked with a dean from a college that I got to be friends with, and he said to me that always study hard, never give up, take pride in your work. And that was the best advice at the time I was in school and struggling, and boy, I'll tell you, she taught me a lot, and gave me so much confidence that after that, everything fell into place for me.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Perseverance. Take pride in your work, because you're putting your name on something that's going to be going out to the public. And you want to do your best work. I spend a lot of time editing because I want everything perfect. I'm a perfectionist. Yeah, and that's, you know, take pride in what you do, always. Always. Never let anybody, you know, tell you you're not worth something, you know? You just... Yeah, stick your chest out and say, I'm worthy, and I'm going to make a dent in what I'm doing.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenges are mostly my age. I've got such a diverse background that I'm a fit for everything, and you know, they'll say, well, how long have you been doing this? It's like, eh, 30 years, you know? Yeah, nothing wrong with it, but, you know, not everybody wants somebody my age. You know, they want to kind of mold whoever they get in, and I'm moldable, but at the same time, you know, they figure I'm set in my ways, so that's probably my biggest obstacle right now. And once I get my foot in, I have no problem impressing them. Like I said, I'm very determined, and take a lot of pride in my work, so I don't take on anything that I don't think I can do, but then if I can't do it, I learn how to do it. And I succeed in that.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Pride. You know, I'm at the age where, you know, socially, I don't worry about making a good impression. I always try to, you know, look my best when I go out, and... But I think just being myself and not putting on, you know, an act. You gotta be who you are. And just take pride in who you are, and, you know, people will either like you or not like you, and so far I've been very blessed that 99% of the people like me.
