Her Interview
Ten minutes with Susan
01What do you attribute your success to?
I care about the business and my work, that's my passion inside me. I'm good with numbers, I like problem solving, and I just have passion. It's just who I am, not from a specific person or incident.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You're going to have to work so you might as well pick something that you like. Figure out what your passion is and find a way to make money doing something that you like. A lot of people chase the money, but if you're doing something that you're passionate about, the money will come.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Startup and small businesses often put accounting on the back burner thinking it's just data entry or inputting numbers. They don't want to spend money on good accountants which leads to bigger costs later from fixes, penalties, and fees. It's a misconception that accounting is just data entry; businesses need to realize the importance of spending on accounting as you run your business by your books.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, trust, and accountability.
