Her Story

About Susan

I am a longtime sports journalist, tournament organizer, and coach dedicated to telling the stories of local athletes and supporting community sports. Currently, I write for Portage Sports, covering golf, bowling, and feature stories that highlight athletes and sports programs across Northeast Ohio. For nearly 35 years, I served as a sports writer and columnist for Record-Courier, reporting on high school and professional golf as well as track, cross country, bowling, soccer, volleyball, and community sports. My work has focused on capturing the achievements and stories of athletes and teams while helping promote local sports. Beyond journalism, I have been deeply involved in amateur golf. Since 2005, I have served as Tournament Director for the Portage County Amateur Senior Amateir, Kids Am and Junior Amateur, organizing and promoting tournaments in partnership with the Northern Ohio PGA and local golf courses. I also spent 18 years as Varsity Bowling Coach at Rootstown High School, mentoring student-athletes and contributing to the development of the school’s bowling program. Earlier in my career, I worked in communications as Public Information and Marketing Coordinator at Channels 45/49 Public Television. My career has always been centered on sports storytelling, community engagement, and helping athletes and local programs receive the recognition they deserve.
