Melin is passionate about developing an ecosystem or nonprofit to help young people and families overcome digital addiction and embrace presence in daily life. As a new business owner, she notes challenges in building trust with clients and the lack of regulation in the coaching field, and she advises aspiring coaches to prioritize service from the heart.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Susan

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to really listening to people about what they're going through and how they feel, and just wanting to be of service to them.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice is something that I just really received recently, in the last couple of years, and that was to trust my own knowledge, and to trust myself and my intuition, because it won't lead me astray.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Going into the industry of coaching, I think a woman really needs to want to be of service to other people. If you go into it with anything other than genuinely, from your heart and soul, wanting to help people, you're a little misguided. The money's gonna come, but your heart and soul has to be one of wanting to be of service to people, genuinely making a difference in somebody else's life.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

As a new business owner in coaching, developing trust in strangers so that they will want to work with you is a long process. Another overarching challenge is that coaching is not regulated, so anybody can call themselves a coach without knowledge of the fundamentals.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is huge, it's probably the biggest. Other values are empathy and kindness.
