Her Story
About Susan
I focus on leadership development by creating and delivering customized training programs for teams and organizations. I also deliver engaging keynote speeches for conferences and leadership retreats. I'm passionate about supporting people in their growth journey and I appreciate organizations that recognize their high-performing, talented people by providing them with opportunities to continue learning and growing. I always feel honored when asked to support others in their development.
There is no typical day for me. There are days where I'm out training and delivering presentations, other days where I'm spending my time creating the content that I will deliver in the future, and then also days where I'm having discovery calls, talking to people and organizations to determine if I would be a good fit for their needs. I've always been a natural connector - I meet people and just remember random things about them. It started out as this weird party trick, but it ended up being something that really enabled me to connect well with people and build those relationships because people appreciated that I remembered them and got to know them. That was a little different than your traditional corporate HR person. When I pivoted into academia and training and development, I gained a lot of success through those personal connections and also storytelling. A lot of my training and content includes visuals and analogies with stories that people find very relatable, which help make learning stick and creates a very positive outcome.

01What do you attribute your success to?

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never compromise your integrity.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Tap into your unique passions and values because so many jobs and job functions kind of get crammed down people's throats because they are a hot new topic. They're not going to work out if somebody isn't truly passionate about what they're doing. I think we need to spend more time honoring what drives people, what inspires them, what makes them feel motivated, rather than forcing people to fit into someone else's mold or directive.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think that there's never enough time to do all things and to be in all places. The challenge is not a lack of opportunity, it's having the time to embrace all of it. We have to pick and choose how we build our schedule, how we curate our priorities. There's just so much out there right now, but the biggest challenge is how do you maximize all of it?
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity and Inclusion
