Her Story
About Susan
Susan Saccoman is a retired educator and performance artist. She earned a teaching degree from a Minnesota college and began her teaching career in 1994 in Namibia after meeting Namibian students there. She returned to the United States and worked in Bloomington, Minnesota for a year or two before joining Minneapolis Public Schools in 1999, where she taught for approximately 25 years until moving to Houston. Throughout her 30-year career in education, she built strong relationships with students and families, particularly in high-poverty areas, and even performed stand-up comedy for 4,000 colleagues at Mariucci Arena in 2014. Now retired, she is pursuing her lifelong passion as a performance artist in Houston, where she has joined the Houston Comedy Sports team, trained in improv and musical improv, performed her first burlesque show, and continues to audition with the goal of using her experiences to create meaningful work on stage.

No matter what line of work, find something that fits you. Keep looking and trying until you find places that fit your style. Never give up until you've found the right fit. For performing, you're never too old as a character actress.
