Susan Torres

Susan Torres is a retired educator based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with more than 30 years of experience teaching English language acquisition and Spanish to students across grade levels. Bilingual in Spanish and English, Susan dedicated her career to supporting English language learners (ELL) as they developed language skills, adapted to new cultures, and prepared for academic success.

Susan spent more than 12 years with the Sioux Falls School District, where she taught elementary and middle school ELL students and developed curriculum and instructional materials in language, reading, and math. She also played a key role in developing and implementing the district’s middle school Immersion Program. Her career additionally included teaching adult ELL and citizenship classes through the LSS Center for New Americans, coordinating an ELL reading program at Augustana College, and teaching English and Spanish in various educational settings.

Now retired, Susan remains passionate about language learning, cultural exchange, and the arts. She holds a teaching certification in Spanish and Language Arts from the University of South Dakota and a BS in Applied Art from Iowa State University, along with K-12 Spanish and ELL endorsements. Her extensive international travel, study, and living experiences have enriched her cross-cultural perspective and shaped her lifelong commitment to helping language learners succeed.
