Her Story

About Susie

Susie Quiroz is an experienced Business Office Manager and independent financial services professional based in Canyon, Texas, with a career spanning operations, accounting, HR, insurance, and client-focused financial planning. She is known for her hands-on leadership style, strong organizational abilities, and a long-standing commitment to helping businesses and individuals bring clarity and structure to their financial and operational goals.

Her journey in the financial industry began immediately after high school, when she and her husband were asked by a trucking company owner to take over part of his business. With little formal accounting experience at the time, she quickly learned bookkeeping and business operations through real-world experience. This early exposure led to an opportunity with a large accounting firm, where her strong organizational skills and attention to detail stood out. From there, she built a career working with private companies, accountants, and physicians launching independent practices, gaining deep expertise in accounting, tax preparation, insurance, HR, and employee benefits. She also gained experience in commodities trading with her husband, further expanding her financial knowledge through hands-on learning and mentorship.

She is currently an Independent Agent with New York Life Investment Management, where she provides insurance and financial products to individuals and families across Texas. With more than 23 years of experience and a strong referral-based network, she focuses on helping clients—especially younger generations—build stronger financial foundations early in life. She prefers a personalized, one-on-one approach and frequently travels to meet clients in person. Outside of her professional work, she is actively involved in her church, participates in the Society for Human Resource Management program, and continues to grow her family legacy in the business by working alongside her son, who has joined her in her current chapter.

Ten minutes with Susie

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is that you've got to love what you do. Like what you do. It can't be a job, it's gotta be something you have passion for and find interest in.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Learn, learn, learn. Whether they send you to some conference or seminars, even if you think you don't want to do that, go anyway. Sometimes those are the most important things. Even if you just learn one thing, it's worth it. Listen and surround yourself with people who know way more than you. Don't be the smartest person in the room. Every week, there's always something to learn.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being dependable is probably my top value. That's what I tell my kids they need to do. You get up and you go to work. A headache shouldn't keep you home unless it's a really bad headache. You push through it.
