About Suzana

Suzana Tulac, PhD, PMP, is a Scientific Affairs Manager, Oncology at Hologic, where she brings more than 20 years of experience in oncology, reproductive endocrinology, virology, molecular biology, and biotechnology. Her work focuses on clinical evidence generation, scientific strategy, product development, and building relationships with physicians, clinical leaders, and key opinion leaders in oncology. She holds a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from Stanford University and the University of Zagreb, building on earlier studies in plant biology and plant tissue culture.

Throughout her career, Suzana has held scientific and leadership roles spanning oncology research, medical and scientific affairs, translational development, and project management. At Hologic, she oversees research and real-world data strategies, supports evidence generation and clinical claims, and contributes scientific expertise in breast cancer biology, biomarkers, and clinical utility. Previously, she led oncology assay development and innovation at Cepheid and directed translational development and project management for mRNA-LNP drug programs. She is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and has authored and contributed to numerous scientific publications.

Suzana’s passion for science began during her childhood in Croatia and continues to motivate her work, particularly in oncology and its potential impact on patients. She attributes her success to perseverance, hard work, grit, dedication, and a commitment to execution and continuous innovation. 01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my lifelong passion for science, which began in Croatia, particularly my desire to advance oncology and help patients. Perseverance, hard work, and seeing the impact of scientific innovation on patients continue to motivate me.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be driven by passion and stay on top of AI changes; combine scientific knowledge with AI tools; look for positions not easily replaced by AI like those needing personal interaction; consider business education for multiple opportunities.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

AI replacing humans doing research and advancing science/biotech; challenges with big pharma not sharing samples for biomarker development; opportunities in early screening and diagnosis rather than late-stage treatment.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Perseverance, hard work, grit, dedication, honesty, transparency, commitment, focus, execution, innovation, loyalty, integrity.
