Suzanne Thomas

Suzanne Thomas, BA, BS, LVT, CVT, NASM-CPT, is a nationally recognized voice in veterinary leadership, known for her passionate advocacy for veterinary technician empowerment, inclusive workplace culture, and sustainable leadership development. As the Founder and CEO of Leading Veterinary Teams, LLC, Suzanne equips veterinary professionals at all levels with the tools, mindset, and strategies to lead effectively—without burnout. She also serves as the Senior Manager of Operations at CareVet, where she supports a portfolio of general practices, guiding them to excel in clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and team engagement. Her work is grounded in the belief that when veterinary professionals are respected, empowered, and supported, both patient care and business success thrive.
Outside of her professional roles, Suzanne is a dedicated mentor, speaker, and champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion in veterinary medicine. Her leadership style is deeply influenced by her upbringing, work ethic, and experience as a mother of twins. Whether she's delivering keynote talks, coaching emerging leaders, or hiking with her dog Mavi, Suzanne remains committed to modeling what balance, resilience, and whole-person leadership can look like. The best career advice I’ve ever received was to trust my gut and make sure my actions always align with my personal passion—because when you lead from that place, everything else starts to fall into place.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges—and opportunities—in veterinary medicine right now is addressing the lack of women in leadership roles and shifting the narrative away from its historically male-dominated roots to create space where women feel empowered to lead, grow, and thrive.
