Her Interview
Ten minutes with Suzette
01What do you attribute your success to?
All of the things that I went through in my life, the way I grew up. I had to be really independent at such a young age because I was raised by my great aunt in the south of Mississippi. I had to do a lot of things that other kids didn't have to do, like taking money across the highway to pay the rent or filling out paperwork. My comprehension level as a child had to be high, and that attributed to who I am and how I am today.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Learn it all. Go into as many different departments as you feel like. You don't want to stay if you start off in housekeeping. You can move up. You have the freedom to move around and go through all these different departments and go up and become whatever you want to be in gaming. You can look up in the next thing you know, you're General Manager.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Online gaming has taken over. In most casinos, they're brick and mortar, and online has taken over. The challenges is you can get on the app and you don't have to deal with people that don't want to be at work today. I think one of the biggest problems for gaming right now is retention. Getting the customers and keeping them there.
