Her Story

About Svetlana

I immigrated to the U.S. in 2004 and people call me a successful immigrant, and I agree with them. I started from zero, washing dishes at Bob Evans for two months, then went to school and became a dental assistant. I stayed in dentistry for eight years because I loved it, but there was no room to grow unless I went back to school to become a dentist. Since I have two daughters and their future is more important to me, I dedicated my time and everything to them. I then took a job as an executive assistant working for a multi-millionaire real estate developer who trained me really well. I wore a lot of hats there and understood business - those things you cannot learn at school, actually. I continued in the construction industry and joined Crystalline Construction to help them grow. I became a recruiter and I love it. I found my calling. I can find a needle in a haystack, I can read people, I can feel people, and most of the time I can tell for sure if a person will be a good fit for the role. I work remotely from home and manage my own schedule with a structured system, though things change a lot in my position. I interview on certain days and source on certain days. I recently got laid off two months ago, which has been challenging given the economy and how many qualified, outstanding people are looking for jobs right now.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The economy is not great right now, and a lot of people got laid off. I got laid off from my recent company two months ago, and it's not easy to get another job because there are so many qualified, outstanding people looking for jobs. Unfortunately, that's a big challenge. Another challenge is finding qualified candidates for certain roles because there are some gaps. It's like everywhere, but those are the specific challenges I see in the field right now.
