Her Story
About Swarnali
I am a medical student and public health professional with a deep commitment to improving healthcare access, patient care, and community health, currently pursuing a Doctor of Medicine and a Master of Public Health at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo. I serve as Telemedicine Coordinator at UBMD Telemedicine, a role I have held since June 2022, where I translate for patients and providers, schedule appointments, maintain consistent patient tracking, collaborate with other hospitals on treatment plans, and solve issues with insurance and infusion centers to ensure seamless care for patients and clinicians.
Prior to this role, I served as Lighthouse Manager at Lighthouse Free Medical Clinic for over a year, where I participated in strategic planning for clinic growth, answered calls, coordinated appointment schedules, guided patients through registration, and organized a successful gala event to raise funds for the clinic. I also served as a Medical Student Volunteer at Big Brother Big Sister Foundation, Inc. for over a year, where I organized and digitized program files, implemented program changes to enhance communication and support, and provided mentorship to children from underprivileged backgrounds.
Earlier in my career, I served as Graduate Research Assistant at the University at Buffalo, where I participated in weekly meetings on advancing an insulin resistance study, created scripts and scheduled appointments, and completed IRB training to conduct studies on insulin resistance. I also served as Chief Medical Scribe at UBMD Pediatrics for ten months, where I transcribed patient interactions and ensured patient documents were up to date.
I hold a Doctor of Medicine and a Master of Public Health, both from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo.
Across my career in healthcare, public health, and community service, my work has been driven by a commitment to health equity, patient-centered care, and building systems that support the well-being of individuals and communities. Whether I am coordinating telemedicine services, managing a free clinic, or conducting research, I bring a compassionate, collaborative approach and a dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and communities. I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career and excited to continue advancing my training and impact as a future physician and public health leader.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I really like dressing up and looking presentable. If you have the smarts to balance that, I definitely think that's something you should do. You shouldn't hide it just because other people are uncomfortable.
