Her Interview
Ten minutes with Swati
01What do you attribute your success to?
I strongly believe that we should always believe in our instincts, whatever we want to go ahead, whether it's a personal life, professional life, anything. My dad said do whatever you want to do, and eventually things fall into place.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Early in my career I was confused about choosing biotech over engineering, but my dad advised to do whatever you want to do and you will find your path. Now 20 years later, I see that I got my path and things fell into place.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It's not an easy path, there will be times you feel you made a wrong decision, but keep trying, keep applying, believe in yourself and never give up. When I moved to the US I applied for more than 100 applications every day on LinkedIn. Be in touch with your field, read new research papers and publications, keep upgrading yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge right now is to update yourself with the current research going on in the fields. To achieve that make sure to read research papers and to the necessary certifications, attend conferences.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Believing in our instincts in both personal and professional life. Having compassion and empathy for others. Making time for self-care and short breaks to avoid frustration.
