Her Story
About Swetha
Swetha Sridharan is a graduate student in the Master's of Science in Computer Software Engineering program at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. She began her journey in computer science as a high school major and continued with computer science engineering studies in India before pursuing her master's degree in the United States. In addition to her studies, she works part-time in a VR lab called Rainscape and conducts research on facial emotion recognition, including a paper titled Hybrid Random for Estate Neural Network Approach for Intelligent Facial Emotion Recognition that she presented to IEEE in Kerala. Swetha holds approximately 100 certifications and maintains active involvement in professional and student organizations, including IEEE from her time in India and the Women in Computer Science club at ASU, where she mentors underclassmen on projects. She values punctuality, discipline, and a love of learning, and she draws inspiration from family mentors including her mother, a computer science professor, her aunt, an entrepreneur, and her uncle in corporate work. Swetha aspires to become an entrepreneur herself and frequently participates in hackathons to build her network and skills.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It is hard, it would get lonely, and being ambitious means you might outdo people, but that doesn't mean your ambition or whatever you're working towards is wrong.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Opportunities include attending hackathons to meet people and find mentors, support from family mentors like mother (CS professor), aunt (entrepreneur), uncle (corporate), and ASU resources like classes, professors, clubs.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Punctuality, discipline, and loving to learn a lot even if I do not know something.
