About Sykora
Sykora is an esports educator, event organizer, and community leader dedicated to expanding opportunities for students through competitive gaming. As Esports Coordinator at Texas A&M University–Texarkana, she combines her passion for esports with a commitment to education, leadership development, and student success. Having started as a competitive League of Legends player in high school, Sykora has evolved into a respected advocate for scholastic esports, focusing on creating meaningful experiences that help students build skills, connections, and pathways to higher education.
While still in college, Sykora was entrusted with leading an esports initiative at an education service center, where she discovered her passion for tournament management and event production. She launched her first esports tournament as a sophomore, attracting nearly 200 student participants, and has since expanded her events across multiple regions of Texas. Through her leadership, these tournaments have become important qualifiers for students while generating significant educational opportunities, including raising more than $50,000 in scholarships over a two-year period. Her long-term vision is to continue growing these events statewide and eventually on a national scale.
Beyond tournament operations, Sykora is committed to fostering inclusivity and community within the gaming industry. She founded a girls gaming club at her university and actively supports initiatives that use esports as a tool for education, engagement, and positive social impact. Her contributions have earned recognition throughout the esports community, including the prestigious 2025 ESTA Service Award from the Esports Trade Association. Whether coordinating large-scale competitions, mentoring students, or building partnerships across education and industry, Sykora remains focused on creating opportunities that empower the next generation of esports leaders.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sykora
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the fundamentals and responsibility my mom and family taught me from a young age which helps with difficult decisions as an entrepreneur. I am Christian and believe God has opened many opportunities for me. Putting myself out there by networking at events and thanking organizers has led to awards and connections, and learning public speaking through 4-H has made me comfortable on stage.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't hesitate when you want to pursue something. Set your mind to it and collaborate with as many other girls as you can because you impact not only yourself but set an example for other females.
