About Sylvia
Sylvia W. Allen founded her production company, Sylvideo Productions, in 2000 while graduating from the University of Baltimore with a degree in Corporate Communication and a minor in television, video, and film production. She began her art education with a full tuition scholarship to the Maryland Institute College of Art and later advanced her producing credentials with a certification from the New York Film Academy after relocating to Los Angeles in 2002. Allen has built a career as a producer, writer, and animator, creating scripts and short films that have earned an Indie Award for her short film, "I Want A Man." Her feature film script, "I Want A Man," winner on the Hot 100 list in 2012, an Honorable Mention winner at the 2016 New York Book Festival for her novel "Witness of Love, When Loyalty Kills." Along with Winner on the 2024 Hot 100 List for her Live Action Animation Feature Film script "Broken Pieces." She maintains membership in the Writers Guild and is currently developing and fundraising for her first animation feature film, Broken Pieces, which blends AI with animation. In addition to her creative work, Allen retired in 2024 after more than 20 years with the City of Los Angeles while pursuing her independent projects through her company at www.sylvideoproductions.com.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Having the grace of GOD which my gifts and talents flow. That same grace that's giving me integrity, tenacity and the spirit of never giving up.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My writing professor at the University of Baltimore told me: if you can write, you can write your ticket into anything. This advice proved true when I successfully pitched and developed my scripts and projects.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Believe in yourself, never have can't in your vocabulary, be unapologetic when you make the right decisions. Always do your research to find the truth when making decisions, have a spirit of service to others and giving back. Your inner circle should be positive people only who are smarter than you. Never settle for mediocracy.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges I face is funding for projects. The content is great but sometimes the gatekeepers block great content due to lack of financial resources and or attachments. Navigating through these oposticals can prove very challenging especially if you want to maintain your integrity, creativity, intellectual property, content etc. when deal making.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values I cherish the most is my believe in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who's given me the gifts and talents I process in the Entertainment space as well as provide for me everyday of my life. In my work and personal life I maintain positive energy with integrity and tenacity.
