Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sylvia
01What do you attribute your success to?
Being a single mom and knowing that it was up to me to be there for my boys. There was no quit in that game. I had to succeed for them.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
There is always something to learn. Never think that you can't learn something new. Always keep your mind open. Every day is a fresh day to learn something new.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't take no. Don't let somebody tell you that you're not suited, or that you can't do it. You can, if you want to.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Gaining trust, especially from male superior figures. As a woman, we still face that glass wall. We have to prove ourselves first. We're not given credibility first, and it's still a challenge.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, honesty, and truth. Staying true to what you know is right, no matter how hard it is. Don't do something that you will have trouble talking about later.
