Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sylvia
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute everything that I have to the people who have helped me along the way, especially my mom who provided a foundation growing up with flexibility in her financial work, and the nurturing community in my small town and smaller college that surrounded me with people who have my best interests at heart.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Always keep your head up, stay positive. You are such a strong individual, and you always have to remember that where you are today, a past you dreamed to be there. You're always making progress. And no progress is linear. Don't be comparing yourself to those in the right lane or the left lane, because you're doing you, and that's truly what matters.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is the duality of AI in the workforce with unknowns and skeptics alongside its usefulness. The biggest opportunity is the constant need for accountants, especially with declining numbers of students pursuing accounting and auditing, which creates openings for those interested.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Community and family are my strongest values, along with honesty and commitment. It is so important that people remain transparent through all aspects of life and stay honest.
