Her Story

About Sylvia

Sylvia Romano serves as an operations manager in the dental field, bringing more than 30 years of experience to her role in a Boston, Massachusetts practice led by world-renowned Dr. Panos. She began her career in a Cambridge office alongside humble doctors who preferred to be addressed by their first names, fostering a collaborative team environment that shaped her leadership philosophy of mentoring rather than leading by power. In her current position, Romano oversees daily operations for full mouth transformations that dramatically improve patient confidence, and she is not afraid to jump in wherever needed, from answering phones to assisting staff. She has a proven track record of helping dental practices succeed, including guiding one office to its first million dollars in revenue, which earned her an award and a staff trip to North Conway, as well as turning around another practice that resulted in a trip to Miami and use of an ocean house. Romano also supports additional offices in Newburyport and Salem, New Hampshire. She attributes her accomplishments to her positive attitude and personality, her curiosity and eagerness to learn like a Curious George type, and her commitment to treating everyone with respect while building confidence in those around her.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sylvia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it's just my positive attitude and my personality. I've just never been afraid to, like, roll up my sleeves and solve everything. I'm a Curious George type, I love to learn, and treating everybody with respect.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Your reputation follows you longer than your résumé. Be known as reliable, honest, and professional. Skills can be taught; trust is earned.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just believe in yourself. And don't be afraid to ask questions. Learn from your mistakes. Keep growing every single day. And find people that feel like sunshine.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Hiring and retaining quality staff. Many practices still struggle to find experienced front desk coordinators, dental assistants, hygienists, and office managers. Turnover can disrupt patient care and office morale.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that matter most to me are integrity, loyalty, accountability, compassion, and resilience.
