About Sylvia
Sylvia Walker is an entrepreneur based in Jacksonville, Florida, where she founded Mobby, Natural As I Wanna Be in 2010. This healthy lifestyle choice brand offers skincare products for ethnic hair, created with a purpose rooted in her early experiences as a nurse needing latex-free options. With nearly 30 years in her field, Sylvia previously served as a corporate nurse for a healthcare plan, recruited nationally for her diverse background in community outreach, care management, supply chain, and building algorithms. She recently authored the book This Ain't No Rehearsal: A Journey to My Testimony, drawing from her nursing career and personal journey. Sylvia maintains active memberships in the Black Nurses Association local chapter, the Florida Nurses Association, and the American Nurses Association. She has received the Economic Development Service Award and Socio Economic Growth Award from the Women of Color Cultural Foundation and was featured in the Road Trip Nation PBS documentary in 2025. In addition to her business, Sylvia volunteers with Healthy Start supporting first-time moms and donates baby bonnets and skincare products. She attributes her success to remaining authentic and presenting the best version of herself, guided by her faith and inner voice.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sylvia
01What do you attribute your success to?
Being authentic and always trying to present the best version of myself. When you're real and credible, people respect what you have to say. It's challenging sometimes because people don't always do the right thing or treat you fairly, but staying authentic helps navigate that.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never allow a title, position, or someone else's definition of success to limit who I am becoming. Trust my gifts, stay aligned with my purpose, and have courage to move when it's time.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
If you're interested in starting a business, shadow or mentor someone or even volunteer in that area to really get an understanding of the business from the ground up. Experience a lot of different things because life has a funny way of connecting the dots.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is AI - it's a blessing and a curse because you can't trust information and we're losing human interaction and communication. The opportunity is to create programs for engagement and scale back on interfaces to allow more human interaction, using the knowledge from AI to improve human interface models.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Trusting that inner voice and having a relationship with God, which is first and foremost. That helps you to know who you are, and if you don't know who you are, how do you know how to navigate life?
