Her Story
About Sylvie
Sylvie Bayeux founded Yoga Ballet Theater to bring the wisdom of yoga into the performing arts, addressing what she saw as a lack of balance and light in the dance world. Based in New York, NY, she has specialized in yoga and ballet for over a decade while continuing to direct theater productions. Bayeux began her yoga practice as a child and received her instructor certification in 2013, though her dance training exceeds 30 years; she started teaching yoga ballet in New York around 2011-2012. She holds a PhD in theater and has worked toward an MFA in choreography, completed Baganova teacher training in St. Petersburg, Russia, and trained at schools such as Bonsai Contemporary Ballet in San Francisco and American Ballet Theater in New York. Bayeux speaks five languages fluently and is studying Japanese, Russian, and Greek. She attributes her success to perseverance and a deep belief that anything is possible, supported by her sense of being an old soul with the backing of the universe. Her father advised her to attempt a task one hundred times before seeking help and to avoid politics, lessons that reinforced her independent path when others doubted her abilities.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sylvie
01What do you attribute your success to?
Perseverance and belief that it's possible. I have believed that this is possible and trusted that I have everything within me to prove it. It comes from being a very old soul with the support of the universe.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My father taught me to try a hundred times before asking for help, and to stay away from politics. People telling me I could not do it pushed me forward.
