Her Story

About Syreeta

I'm a user acceptance test lead at LabCorp, where I've been for almost 9 years. My main area of expertise is user acceptance testing - basically leading projects and making sure they're tested thoroughly, like software projects, before they go into production and release to the general public and the business. I'm also using AI to streamline those processes. A typical day for me involves meeting with the testers, making sure they have all of their resources and are trained on the system to be able to do their job and do the testing. I make sure all the documentation is thorough on my end, putting together the test plans and then the test summary reports. I meet with the testers daily just to make sure they have what they need, and also meet with product owners and project managers to make sure we're meeting our correct deadlines and timelines. I also do some testing with the testers, making sure there's no bugs. If we do find bugs, then I log defects and retest those as necessary. I see myself as being open and being that mentor and leader for those testers.

Ten minutes with Syreeta

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say network. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Right now I'm still learning ServiceNow, and I started a 30 Days of ServiceNow challenge in which, for the next 30 days, I'll be posting once a day about something ServiceNow related. So don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Speak about what you want, whether it's a certain role or what have you. Let the world, the universe know - hey, this is what I want, this is what I'm studying - so people know what you're about and what you're wanting. Even if you had to start with just one post, just start. I've been posting and trying to be a resource mentor for a while now, just letting especially women know that, hey, you can do it. Whether you look like me or just a woman in general in IT space, you can do it. Consistency and hard work - this is kind of my motto, what I like to show. Be consistent and you can get rewarded.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I know AI is a big thing, just learning that, learning to adapt to it, I would say, and not be afraid of it. I feel like if you kind of flow with it, learn it, I don't see it as a replacement, more so as an enhancement, I would say. Being open to that, I feel like it would definitely be a challenge.
