About Taejah

Taejah J. Harper is the Assistant Director of Development at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, where she supports fundraising and engagement initiatives that advance student success and strengthen the college’s mission. In her role, she focuses on annual giving efforts, securing philanthropic support for scholarships, academic programs, and facilities while managing stewardship initiatives, corporate sponsorships, and strategic partnerships. Through relationship-building and strategic communication, Taejah works to connect donors and supporters with meaningful opportunities to make a lasting impact.

A proud graduate of Grady College, Taejah earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2020 before beginning her career as a news producer in Macon, Georgia. During her two years in broadcast journalism, she developed valuable experience in storytelling, audience engagement, and digital media production. Driven by a desire to expand her skills and explore new ways to create impact, she returned to the University of Georgia to pursue her master’s degree in journalism and mass communication with a concentration in emerging media. Her transition into a communications role within UGA’s Development and Alumni Relations division introduced her to higher education advancement, ultimately leading her to her current position supporting Grady College’s fundraising and engagement efforts.

Taejah is passionate about education and committed to creating opportunities for students, particularly through scholarships and programs that support first-generation college students. She attributes her professional growth and success to her faith, which provides daily guidance, and the encouragement of her large and supportive family. Her advice to young women entering the industry is to embrace their individual journeys, avoid comparing themselves to others, and trust the path ahead. Guided by purpose, perseverance, and a commitment to service, Taejah continues to use communication and relationship-building to help others thrive.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Taejah

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith, which serves as my ultimate source of guidance, purpose, and motivation. Each day, I begin with prayer and the hope that my work creates a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I am also incredibly grateful for my family, whose unwavering support, encouragement, and belief in me continue to inspire me to strive for excellence. Their constant encouragement and willingness to cheer me on through every decision have played an important role in shaping who I am and the success I have achieved.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering the industry to embrace their own unique paths and trust the journey they are creating. Everyone’s career unfolds differently, so it is important not to compare your progress or achievements to those of others. Comparison can take away from the joy of your own growth and accomplishments. Stay focused on your goals, remain confident in your abilities, and trust that the opportunities meant for you will come at the right time. Your journey has purpose, and every step you take is helping shape your future.
